"IT'S ALIVE! IT'S ALIVE!"

It literally has been years since I posted anything on my blog, but it's time to bring it back from the dead. As before, I'll be utilizing the Johnny Supersonic blog to post news and stuff about what I'm up to and to show some artwork that hasn't made it or might not be destined for my website.

So, along those lines here's some sketches to get me started posting again...

The sketch for Moon Doggie...something for fun
BatFatales...the sketch from my donation to the 2012 Wonder Woman Day charity auction
The sketch from one of Flying Outfitters' 2 apparel/web graphics

Free Comic Book Day '09 At Comic Fusion

Last Saturday, I spent the afternoon doing character sketches as part of Free Comic Book Day '09 at Comic Fusion in Flemington, NJ. As always hanging out with Stacy and the gang was a blast. There was a great turn out (Stacy said her best yet) and the store moved a lot of graphic novels. I got a lot of interesting requests art-wise, which gave me a good workout drawing characters I've never done before. My first poster, "Turbines To Speed!" made its debut and some Jersey Devil stickers were snatched up during the day. I've already been asked about coming back for Wonder Woman Day in October...definitely looking forward to it.

Here are some of the sketches...

The Joker

A Clone Trooper

Harley Quinn

Wailmer (A Pokémon)

Super-James (a gift from his mom)

Tin (from The Metal Men)

Space Boy (from The Umbrella Academy)

New Show at Wired Gallery in Bethlehem, PA

I'm having my 1st show of 2009 at the newly renovated Wired Gallery. The opening is on Friday night, February 6th from 7 - 9 pm. It's going to feature several of my large acrylic paintings on canvas as well as several smaller paintings. These smaller paintings are done in the style of traditional hand-painted animation cels on the inside of CD jewel cases. The show will hang for a month, so if you happen to wander into the Keystone State stop by and check it out.

I'm really looking forward to this show. It's my first time in this very kool area and it's a great opportunity to have my work seen by a whole new crowd.

Wonder Woman Day '08 In Flemington

Back on October 25th, I was in Flemington, NJ at Comic Fusion for Super Hero Weekend. This was the day before Wonder Woman Day '08. I was set up doing sketches for those that came into the store that day to buy some raffle tickets and place bids on the artwork donated for this year's charity auction. I got to hang out with James Fiorentino, an amazing sports/entertainment portrait painter and, of course, The Flash and Harley Quinn. Stacy made sure we were watered, fed and out of the rain. As always I had a great time hangin' out with everyone at Comic Fusion. Here are some of the sketches from that day...

Citizen Steel

Eddie Munster

The Joker

Robin

"It Came from Hoboken" Opening

My opening night of "It Came from Hoboken" took place this past Saturday and I think the whole evening went great. Blu-Violet looked fantastic. The turnout was very good...there seemed to be a constant flow of people through the door the entire evening. The food and drink was excellent (Thanks, Travis). The most important part of the opening though was that I got a chance to meet and talk to a lot of really kool people.

My paintings were very well received and more than a handful of people expressed interest in getting their hands on a "Lactose Intolerance" t-shirt. Those should be making their way to the store in the next couple of weeks. In addition, I was beyond flattered that Cheryl, one of the Blu-Violet people and an artist herself, reinterpreted one of my images as a sculpture (see the pic further down in the post). Directly below is "Tiki Mug", which made its debut at the show.

I sincerely want to thank Carolyn for bringing my paintings in for a show at her store/gallery. I had a really great time. If you didn't have a chance to make it out for the opening, the show will be open for at least the next 2 months, so you still have plenty of time to stop by Blu-Violet.

As always I have to thank my wife, Wendy for helping me in so many ways in getting ready for my shows. She's the best!

"It Came From Hoboken"

...is the name of my upcoming show, that's taking place at Blu-Violet in Chester, NJ. Blu-Violet is a very kool shop/gallery owned and run by Carolyn Tepper. The opening will be taking place on Saturday night, March 1st from 6-9 pm. The evening is part of "Chester's Art Walk," a benefit for Jersey Battered Women's Service of Morris County. There'll be refreshment and some fun people to hang out with. The show will include some existing canvases along with a couple of new pieces.
